What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a popular word these days and it has different meanings. Although the practice is unique for everyone, in essence, mindfulness is an attitude, a practice, and a way of living. Jon Kabat-Zinn, an accomplished professor and advocate of mediation, has defined mindfulness as paying attention, in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally. Compassion and acceptance play a vital role in this process.
That sounds great. So how can you get started?
The challenge to slow down, live in the moment, and offer compassion to yourself and others can start with a willingness to see the world, including yourself, with open eyes and an open mind. See what is, without feeling compelled to judge or even to make complete sense of it.
